Designer fashion is more than just brand-name clothing;
it is a work of art, a reflection of today's society, and for
some, a lifestyle. This is certainly the case for Baby Phat, a
fashion clothing line launched by Kimora Lee Simmons. Baby Phat
is a sibling of Phat Farm, a designer clothing company started by
Kimora's husband at the time, Richard Simmons. During a fashion
show for Phat Farm, models walked down the runway in tiny tees
that sported the name Baby Phat. This fashion trend caught on
quick and soon celebrities and models alike were seen wearing
these tiny tops. It was then that Kimora knew that this
phenomenon was something too remarkable to pass up, and she
launched the Baby Phat line in 1998.
Baby Phat is well known
for its ability to combine both elements of high fashion and
hip-hop. It is feminine and fun, sexy and glamorous. Not only
does this designer fashion line present clothes for women and
girls, but it also markets accessories for phones, stylish shoes
and sexy jewelry. In fact, more than a decade later, Baby Phat is
one of the most lavish lines in
hip hop clothing and is enjoyed by a diverse group of women,
including Paula Abdul, Britney Spears and Lil' Kim.
