Versace
Gianni Versace was born December of 1946 in Reggio Calabria,
Italy. Before his award winning fashion career began he
apprenticed at his mother's local dressmaking business, and at 25
he was creating pret-a-porter collections for top fashion
houses.
1978, was the year, with the help of brother Santo, Gianni founded the Gianni Versace company and began producing extremely new, bold and innovative designs. Later that same year Versace showed his first women's collection in Milan and quickly gained international recognition. He was known for consistently challenging the boundaries of fashion with his vibrant patterns, distinctive cuts, and unconventional materials brilliantly united together. The combination of high art and contemporary culture earned many awards such as the Cutty Sark and Golden Eye award!
After Gianni's untimely death in 1997, his sister Donatella Versace has been the mind behind the new collections. The new ready to wear collection is full of vivid pastels, geometric prints, baroque curlicues, short-short skirts, and sexy, slinky chainmail. Yes, that's correct chainmail, displayed with such elegance you know it is something you would only find on a Versace runway! The Versace company now produces, sunglasses, perfume, and even shoes. The clothing line has maintained it's artistic feel combined with it's regal design qualities which keep many of it's followers content and loyal.
