Donna Karan
Donna Karan is a well-known fashion designer. Her parents,
who also worked in the fashion industry, greatly influenced her
from an early age. After working for Ann Klein for more than a
decade, she and her husband, along with Takhyo Corporation, created
a label: "Donna Karan New York." They released its first women's
collection in the mid 1980's.
In 1988, Donna Karan extended her empire by creating a more
affordable line named DKNY. DKNY originally catered to
younger women, but eventually, it offered items for men and kids as
well. After much anticipated success of her brands,
however, Donna Karan decided to resign as the company's CEO.
It wasn't too long afterwards that Moet Henessey Louis Vuitton
showed interest in the company and bought the entire Gabrielle
Studio, which owned the two major lines in 2001. Despite the change
in ownership, Donna Karan is still the acting chairwoman and chief
designer of Donna Karan New York even today. DKNY, on the other
hand, is now being handled by her longtime friend and colleague,
Jane Chung.
Aside from clothes, Donna Karan has produced other products like
bedsheets, towels and accessories that include eyewear, bags,
shoes, perfumes, hosiery and intimates. The company’s
innovative style paved the way for a whole new lifestyle for the
modern woman. Donna Karan has been hailed as a designer who truly
understands the woman's body. That’s why there
it’s no surprise that the world's most elite women want to
wear her creations.
