Ray-Ban Accessories
Ray Ban was founded in 1937, by Bausch & Lomb and originally
introduced for the United States Army. Ray Ban is a high end
manufacturer of sunglasses and sold at many specialty boutiques
around the world. The idea of the first anti-glare sunglass
prototype came when they received a call from a Lieutenant John
MacCready, that had just returned from a balloon flying adventure
and complained his eyes had been permanently damaged by the
sun. On that day Bausch & Lomb took out a patent on the
idea, the prototype was known as Anti-Glare, the frame was
extremely light, weighing only .33lbs and was made of gold plated
metal with green lenses made of mineral glass to filter out the
ultraviolet rays from the sun.
This prototype came to be known as the Ray-Ban Aviator, and was a very popular style amongst the United States Army pilots, and this style is still worn today. Fast forward ten years later into the 1940's and the company began working with the United States Air Force to develop the mirror lens, as another anti-glare measure which was tested by their pilots, and today this style is merely seen as a great fashion accessory. In the past eight decades Ray-Ban has definitely kept up with the changing of times creating bright colored frames in the 1960's, big framed sunglasses in the 1970's, and sporty frames for the 1980's. Ray-Ban is still one of the most fashionable, yet practical brands of our time.
