With roots in Buffalo, New York, New Era Cap Company
started in 1920 when German immigrant and founder, Ehrhardt Koch
developed his own hat wear company. Originally known as E. Koch
Cap Co. in the early 1920's, the company quickly changed its name
to New Era. Since its beginnings, New Era has evolved
tremendously, growing into a hat brand that hundreds of
celebrities, entertainers, and athletes know and love.
Best known for their athletic hat wear, New Era came up with
their first design for a baseball cap in 1934. Determined to make
the best product, New Era dedicated itself to creating the
perfect fitted cap. Eventually, their persistence would pay off.
By the 1940's, New Era was selling many of their hats to several
Major League Baseball (MLB) teams. Almost 15 years later, New Era
would present their newly redesigned fitted hat, 59Fifty, to the
world. Still extremely popular, the 59Fifty has defined much of
urban culture and fashion today. Typically designed with a flat
brim, embroidered logo, and moisture absorbing sweatband, New Era
has dreamt up a hat that has literally become an obsession to
street savvy hipsters across America. In time, New Era would also
set up a crucial deal with MLB, making it the first brand to have
an exclusive agreement with the organization. Today, New Era also
has deals with NHL, NBA, and over 200 colleges and universities
across the United States.
With an extensive apparel and accessory collection for men,
women, and children, it is really no surprise seeing New Era
grace media outlets across the globe. Despite their strong sports
heritage, New Era has had a major impact on people from all walks
of life. Whether in a magazine, on TV, or on the web, New Era's
timeless designs remain iconic pieces in the sports,
entertainment, and fashion world.
