Rock and Republic began with an unlikely creative force, Michael Ball a former professional cyclist. Michael Ball, a native Californian, raced competitively until a crash forced him into an early retirement. One day in 2002, after his girlfriend came home in a pair of jeans, which were less than flattering, Michael challenged her that he could make a feminine, classic pair of jeans for her. Once the first pair of jeans was created, the rest was history. Michael Ball formed a partnership with Andrea Bernholtz after the two met at a Los Angeles hotspot. Ball and Berhotlz quickly became friends. Bernholtz’s previous fashion and business sense allowed Rock and Republic to come stand in the forefront of denim market.
