Pringle 1815
Pringle 1815 is a brand from Pringle of Scotland, a maker of
high-end knitwear since 1815. Pringle 1815 was launched in 2005 to
be the company’s foray into contemporary design. The line is
headed by creative director Clare Waight Weller, who was tapped to,
as the company puts it, “reinvent the brand” for
women.
While we can thank Pringle of Scotland for classic creations such
as the argyle pattern and the twin set, as well as exquisite
contributions to the world of cashmere over the past 100 years,
Pringle 1815 is all about the 21st century. Waight Weller
targets the young, modern market with a stylish melding of the
brand’s history and a powerful individuality. Knits are still
the foundation of the line, but many of those knit styles are
translated to woven fabrics and more modern cuts.
For the Autumn/Winter 2009 collection, for example, Pringle 1815
took inspiration from English country homes to create pieces that
were both strong and feminine. Stripes and intense colors melded
with bows and ruffles, while some designs included lines more often
seen in menswear. Coats, tops, skirts, jackets, pants and dresses
are all part of the Pringle 1815 portfolio, and if the reception in
fashion shows worldwide is any indication, Pringle 1815 is destined
to be lauded by fashionistas for a long time to come.
