Betsey Johnson

Betsey Johnson was born August 10th, 1942. She is a fashion designer best known for her feminine, fairy tale looks. Many people know her looks to be overdone and unrealistic, but her love of costumey dress comes from her many years in dance classes. She went to Syracuse University, and then went on to complete a summer internship at Mademoiselle magazine.

Betsey's fashion career jump started when she entered, and won, a guest editor position at the magazine she was interning for. After a year, she was the in house designer for Paraphernalia, a Manhattan boutique. After this she became a big part in the youthquake fashion movement, and joined along side Andy Warhol's underground scene.

In 1969 Betsey Johnson opened her first boutique, Betsey Bunki Nini, in New York, followed by her gain of the brand Alley Cat in the 1970's. This brand was very big with the musicians of this era. Then in 1978, Betsey started her own fashion line. Her first collection was a big hit, but her second one basically bombed, leaving her without funds to throw a fashion show to sell them. As a result she opened a store in SoHo, and now has 45 stores worldwide.Since then Betsey has been inducted into the fashion hall-of-fame, announced her line would include not only clothing and dresses, but handbags, accessories, hats and scarves, and contributed to the book Cherry Bomb.

Now Betsey Johnson's line includes many different styles, including shoes, intimates, clothing, and jewelry. If flashy retro punk is your style, then the clothes and dresses will fit your personality. Even if you are looking to try something new, her jewelry line has alot of fun pieces that can spice up any outfit, and we all know that no woman can go wrong with a sexy pair of  animal print shoes.
